Amar Mahal Palace

Amar Mahal, located in Jammu, is a palace depicting grandeur of an erstwhile era. Planned by a French architect in 1862, the palace is built in red sandstone. Built in the European castle style, the palace has sloping roofs with turrets and tall towers. When built during the reign of Raja Amar Singh, it was the tallest building in Jammu. The imposing building has long passages on three sides, which are covered by sloping corrugated tin roofs. The passages are supported on columns with wooden framework. The first floor of the palace building has French windows with connected balcony. The top floor has a bay window. The windows also depict triangular projections in classical Greek architectural style, which are fitted over ornate false columns. Ranbir Canal

Ranbir Canal is the best spot for enjoying a fun picnic in Jammu City. Located at the distance of only 2 kms from the main city, the canal attracts a number of tourists as well as locals. Completed in 1905, the canal is stretched for 60 kms. Taking off left of Chenab River up-stream Akhnoor Bridge, the canal passes through Jammu City. During remodeling in 1968-75, the canal bank was renovated and beautified. Today, the canal bank creates a cozy picnic spot filled with breath-taking flowers where you can enjoy a day of lazing around with your family and friends.

Bahu Fort and Gardens

Bahu Fort is arguably the oldest edifice in Jammu City. The 3000-year-old fort was built by Raja Bahulochan. Located at 5 kms away from the city center, the existing fort was extended and improved upon by the Dogra Rulers. The palace is surrounded by a beautiful terraced garden, known as Bagh-e-Bahu. Offering the most beautiful panoramic view of Jammu City, the Bahu Fort is a must-visit part of most Kashmir travel packages. Apart from being an architectural marvel and historic location, the Bahu Fort is also famous for housing the Bahu Temple, popularly known as Bave Wali Mata Mandir. The temple overlooks the River Tawi and is considered to be the home of Mahamaya, the local goddess of Dogras. Mansar Lake

While the oldest building of the palace dates back to 1824, the entire complex took around 150 years to complete. A mix of Rajasthani architecture, European baroque and Mughal styles, the Mubarak Mandi Palace attracts history buffs and tourists from around the world.
